Dr. Penner opened SFM in 2006 after having lived in Asheboro for a few years and working at another family medicine office. She wanted to be able to have some freedom and flexibility to provide the time and care she feels patients deserve. We at Summit Family Medicine strive to promote health and wellness and keep you at the center of your medical care. We have always strived to provide the best, evidence based and most cost effective care. We took this to the next level to show our commitment on these endeavors by working towards and acheiving the Patient Centered Medical Home Recognition in 2017. This holds us to a level of standards to provide excellent care, while also closing gaps in care and coordinating all your medical needs. Let us help you achieve the best health possible.
Dr. Penner received her medical degree at Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. She completed a family medicine residency program in Midland, Michigan. After residency, Dr. Penner moved to Washington State where she practiced for 4-5years before relocating to North Carolina in 2001.
Jessica joined our Summit Family team in April 2019. She has been an awesome addition to our staff. Jessica has worked in the area as an RN for many years in many different capacities and then graduated from Herzing University with her Masters degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. We were so impressed with her abilities when she did some of her training rotations with us that we had to bring her on our team.

Urgent Care
We strive to be available for all your needs but understand urgent matters occur after hours that cannot be handled over the phone or thru messaging. We therefore have in place a co-management agreement with White Oak Urgent Care to provide direct patient care after our hours. We will work with the urgent care to provide you the quickest, most cost effective care. We are available to the urgent care providers to help them with managing your acute needs and follow up. It is helpful for you to provide them with a summary of your care that is given at your regular office appointments so that they have an accurate list of your medications and problems. If you do not have this on hand, our co-management agreement allows them to call us for this information as needed.
White Oak Urgent Care is located at 197 NC-42 in Asheboro. 336-625-2560 and at 608 W. Academy St in Randleman. 4336-495-1001.
Behavioral Health
We understand that there are times when you may need additional counseling/therapeutic help in regards to your mental health. We have a management agreement to share information, with your permission, to your counselor thru our mental health management system QUARTET. When we refer you for services, you will be contacted by them to arrange a mutually agreeable service which may include an online program or in person counseling. Having this agreement in place allows us to provide to you the best possible solutions.
